Nunchi Summit 2024

A conference, to expand the horizons of mental health.

Our Spring 2024 summit took place on February 3, 2024.

What is it?

The Nunchi Summit is a virtual mental health conference catered towards communities of immigrant origin. In the past, our Summit has featured mental health advocacy workshops, professional mentorship, and our signature Nunchi Talks event. This conference is open to all high school students, university students, and young professionals interested in mental health.

Below is our schedule from the Spring 2024 Nunchi Summit.

11:30am-11:40 am — Opening Ceremony

11:40 am-12:20 pm — Workshop 1: Becoming a Culturally Responsive Mental Health Professional

A discussion panel with Anum Ali (Mental Health Clinician @ Lyra Health), Andrew Chang (MD candidate @ Harvard Medical School), and Joya Bhattacharyya (PhD candidate @ George Washington) on the future of mental health for immigrant-origin youth and professional opportunities.

12:20 pm-1:00 pm —Lunch Break

1:00 pm-2:30 pm — Workshop 2: Community-Centered Tools for Mindfulness and Healing

Trained Nunchi facilitators will lead a workshop on mental wellness, story-sharing techniques, and more. Participants will be put in breakout rooms of 5-10 people; active participation will be expected!

Nunchi Talks

The Nunchi Talks is our hallmark event for the Nunchi Summit. This is a participant-driven presentation series with a prize pool of $1.5k+. This is an amazing opportunity to present your individual journey in mental health or the innovative mental health work that you do. Special recognition will be given to stories or works focused on mental health equity.

Who: All students, mental health professionals, or community health organization representatives are welcome to sign up. 

What: Individuals deliver a 7-minute talk on a mental health topic or their mental health work. Presenters and attendees will be placed in one of six tracks: 

  1. Innovation and Technology: Showcase innovative solutions, apps, or platforms in technology related to mental health.

  2. Nonprofit Initiatives: Highlight projects or initiatives dedicated to mental health.

  3. Medicine and Clinical Insights: Present the latest research and clinical perspectives on mental health.

  4. Personal Stories of Resilience: Share personal experiences with mental health challenges and their journey to resilience.

  5. Intersectionality and Mental Health: Examining the intersection of mental health with factors such as age, gender, race, sexuality, and culture.

  6. Policy and Advocacy: Highlighting the current challenges and opportunities within policy and advocacy in shaping mental health initiatives.

Why: Presenters voted as the best presentation will be recognized during our awards ceremony and receive an award size of up to $100.

  • Participation in the Nunchi Summit is entirely free of charge. We are thankful to our sponsors for their generous support. Please consider donating to our cause.

  • Nunchi Talks are an opportunity to share a 7-minute talk on a mental health-related story or topic. Speakers and attendees will be placed in one of six tracks based on indicated interest in the registration form.

  • To indicate interest in doing a presentation, please fill out the RSVP form (link found at the beginning of the document). To confirm your slot, you must email your slides to us by 1/27/24, EOD. Submissions after this deadline will not be able to participate.

  • Yes. However, each representative from the same organization must register independently.
