The Nunchi Fellowship

A training program, to learn about mental health, together.

For our Summer 2024 program, check back again in early May!

What is it?

The Nunchi Fellowship is a service learning and leadership opportunity for students of immigrant/international identity, background, or heritage. Students develop mental health leadership through an interactive workshop series and service opportunities focused on mental health equity. At the end of the Fellowship, Nunchi Fellows gain basic training on how to provide peer support and give back to their communities.

Format

Our program runs for 7 weeks based on the school semester system. Every weekday evening, fellowship groups meet online for a 2-hour workshop. Each group has 6-7 peers of similar age, but in most cases, different schools. We currently offer programs for young adults enrolled in school, including high school, undergraduate, and graduate students. Our curriculum is designed for students of immigrant identity, background, or heritage, including overseas/international students, first- or second-generation Americans, and DACA students.

  • Applicants must be:

    • Currently enrolled in a high school, college, or graduate program,

    • Above age 13 and below age 30 as of September 1, 2023,

    • Of immigrant background or heritage (this would include overseas/international students, first- or second-generation Americans, and DACA students),

    • Available to attend all fellowship sessions throughout the semester.

  • Our goal is for participants to build a community to learn about our mental health and brainstorm ways to give back to our community. We are an interactive educational curriculum focused on mindfulness and community action. Though not an expectation, many of our students have come back to become trained facilitators or mental health advocates/professionals in their communities.

  • Participants will be assigned to either a Monday OR Tuesday session depending on their preferences, and will consistently attend their assigned Monday or Tuesday sessions for the entirety of the program.
