What We Do

Nunchi Health was founded to improve the mental health of students of immigrant background and minority identities.

Our Mission

We advance the mental health of young persons through community building.

Our Vision

To make mental health accessible for young people.

Our Call to Action

Build Our Community. Tell Our Stories. Power Our Minds.

Our students have worked hard to secure their educational opportunities, and they should be supported in their mental wellbeing while doing it. We build mental health programs so that students can feel supported in their educational journey. We envision Nunchi to be a community where students can feel safe, reflect about their daily challenges, and find healing and solutions in community. Our work centers around fostering community and belongingness to improve mental resilience. We are a community-building platform for students to learn about their story, reflect upon their growth and opportunities, and work to support each other and their communities.

Our Core Values

Community

There is so much power in our collective action. We believe that we are stronger when we are in this, together. Nunchi is as much a space as it is a movement, to uplift the resilience of our communities.

Belongingness

We are so special in the way we are. More than just a passive belief in diversity and inclusion, we need to act on it. Nunchi is a community where students not only feel included but belonged.

Empathy

Nunchi is a community that gives empathy not only to others but also to ourselves. Envisioning a kinder world, we are here to listen, build, and grow together.

How We Make A Difference

We have our students lead and set the agenda on the focus of our programming. Our programs are based on a unique peer-led, problem-solving model that allows students to solve problems most relevant to their lives while fostering a community of support and collective healing. Evidenced by many studies, social support is one of the strongest protective factors against mental health crises. We understand that the power of the collective is especially important for communities of immigrant background or minority identities. Our programs are science-informed and technology-enabled. We continue to improve our programs based on evidence-based interventions and the latest mental health digital technology. Importantly, all of our programs are free.

Why We Care

Mental health is one of our biggest public health challenges. One in five persons living in the U.S. has a treatable mental health disorder. Among them, persons of immigrant background and minority identities receive inferior and less care. Our communities continue to face unique mental health challenges, including minority stress, stigma, intergenerational conflicts or trauma, language barriers, imposter syndrome, and cross-cultural conflicts. We deserve more attention in mental health research and service provision.

The Nunchi community is here to build communities of support so that we can all belong.

We are healing our generation, together.
